I find it interesting seeing what people do in a game before they tick it off as 'complete'. Is it only the main story/campaign that matters? Are challenges and collectibles (e.g. the challenge maps of batman) essential to completing a game? Or are achievements your speciality?

Personally i normally feel compelled to do everything in a game that is do-able without obscene grinding or boredom. For example in AC 2 I did every job possible, got all weapons/properties and all the hieroglyph thingys. But i didn't have any interest in collecting the feathers because that was a ridiculous task. For arkham city i will most likely 100% it because everything (while being difficult) is attainable while still being enjoyable.

So what about you guys, how far do you go in a game before it's complete for you?

I typically consider a game complete when I've finished the story. Now, I will of course complete all side quests/missions if they are worth completing. If the side missions consist of fetch quests over and over and over, then forget it.

I also do not have any interest in collecting items scattered throughout game worlds. It just feels like filler to me.

Agreed. I can be a collector/100%'er in some games, but in more modern games, I do a fairly slow play through where I try and explore thoroughly, but I don't often go back anymore if they're just random items hiding somewhere unless I just find it fun.

Examples:
Uncharted games - play through once, keep my eyes peeled, finish the story w/ 50% of the treasures, I'm pretty happy.
Older FF games - had to beat the baddest boss out there then, it was complete
FF XIII - played through story only, wasn't compelled to continue the rest of the quests.
Arkham City - really enjoyed traversing the map, riddler icons lowered the bar sufficiently I got 100% (didn't do 100% of the challenges though.

Skyrim.... psshh, yeah right ;-)

Cheers!
